It’s pretty obvious now that Lucinda is a child of the computer age.We were watching “The Simpsons” tonight when the local Fox station had some kind of technical problem. The screen went blank, save for the Fox logo. Lucinda went to the TV, turned it off, counted to 10, and then turned it back on. I tried to tell her that that wouldn’twork, since the TV wasn’t made by Microsoft, but she didn’t really understand.

Lucinda had her first sleep-over trip today. She spent the night at Aunt Maggi’s house. This was the first time she has spent the night away from home.

We took Lucinda up into the local mountains for the first time today. We hiked about a half-mile on a fire road near Mt. Wilson. She wants to do it again. Pictures at http://1134.org/lucinda/photos/index.php?string=&ayear=2002&amonth=7&aday=24&byear=2002&bmonth=7&bday=24&submit=Search

Today was the first time that Lucinda fed the dogs all by herself. She got both bowls, filled them, and then set them out in their proper positions for the dogs to eat.

Two big milestones today. First, since Lucinda has graduated to sleeping in the big bed, we took down her crib. Second, she has learned to pump on her swing. Pictures at http://1134.org/lucinda/photos/index.php?string=&ayear=2002&amonth=1&aday=19&byear=2002&bmonth=1&bday=19&submit=Search

Aunt Maggi bought Lucinda a tricycle some time ago. This evening, she rode it all the way around the block for the first time. Pictures at http://1134.org/lucinda/photos/index.php?string=&ayear=2001&amonth=12&aday=24&byear=2001&bmonth=12&bday=24&submit=Search

We set up a computer for Lucinda to play little kid games, and today was the first time she really understood the connection between the motion of the mouse and the cursor. She learned to point-and-click today.

We took her out to Tarzana today to go to Gentle Barn (http://www.gentlebarn.org). This is a house in a residential area that has farm animals for petting and such. She liked it a lot. We didn’t stay for the vegan potluck, though.

Lucinda found a dead squirrel in the back yard today. She was quite fascinated by it, since she likes all animals. We explained to her that the squirrel had died, and then we held a funeral for it. We dug a hole and put the squirrel in it. Lucinda picked some flowers to put in the hole alongside the squirrel, and then we covered it up. She then picked out some rocks to make a headstone for it.
